"Mostly Cornwall" - Cecily Tucker

"Mostly Cornwall" - Cecily Tucker

A favourite place for me. Cornwall feels like another country with something to inspire around every corner. As always, still-life features strongly in this exhibition of new works by Cecily Tucker.

The subject of most of the paintings in this exhibition come from my love of Cornwall. I have always loved the richness of Bonnard’s still life painting and the perfection of Matisse’s composition. My first influence though was Vuillard; his combination of immediacy and ambiguity. For me, the stimulus to paint comes from my environment, but in the studio, painting is work of the imagination. The original subject has to evolve into an arrangement of form and colour. I will use whatever texture seems to be needed at that moment. Most of my paintings go through various incarnations before they are finished. Opening times: Tuesday to Saturday 10.30am-5pm; Closed Sunday and Monday. Closed for lunch 1-2pm.
